Bored With This Article?

I worked hard on this article and I put in some valuable information that can help a lot of people see that making money online is possible. The problem is that most people are impatient and they want to know how to start making money online RIGHT NOW. If that's you, click that button below to learn NOW!

The What, The When and The How

You're probably ready to learn about whatever it is I'm talking about that can make you money online.

Since you're still here and still reading this article I'll tell you WHAT you have to do to make money online.

I'll tell you WHEN you'll be able to actually see some income.

And finally I'll tell you HOW to do it even if you have no online business experience whatsoever.

A Website!

In order to really make money online you'll need your own website. This might sound daunting but the truth is that it's not very hard if you have the right training and I'll show you the very best place to learn.

6 Months - 1 Year

Once you have your own website the time in which it takes to make money can vary between individuals. The soonest you can expect to see any income is 2 months but I always tell people to be prepared to go 6 months to 1 year without seeing income.

Affiliate Marketing

The easiest way to make money from a website is with affiliate marketing. With the right training program even the greenest beginners can build a successful affiliate marketing website. I'll explain this in detail later.

"6 months - 1 year is WAY too long to wait for income. I have bills to pay!"

If you had this exact thought when you read the 'When", don't worry, you're not alone.

Every single person who read this before you had that same thought and every person who reads this after you will have that same thought.

I totally understand that people can't go that long without making money and I don't expect any of you to either.

To get around this I'm going to give you one very important piece of advice.

It's the same advice that someone gave me when I first started out online and it makes perfect sense.

"Don't quit your job YET"

The beauty of learning affiliate marketing is that you can do it on your own time. There are no rules about how many hours you have to work per day to make this work.

You can spend an hour here and there building your website up slowly and that way you'll be able to keep your job until your website is making enough money to support you and your family.

Quitting your job can be a goal that you work towards. It actually works as a great motivator because it gives you an amazing reward to work towards.

RT if you'd work for free for 6 months if it meant you'd never have a boss again thereafter.

The Training Program That Changed My Life

You might recall me saying that building your own website isn't actually that difficult if you have the right training.

Well it's very true. There are actually a lot of great training programs that teach people how to build websites but one of them stands out from the rest.

That training program is called Wealthy Affiliate and it's the exact training that I took a few years ago that taught me pretty much everything I know about making money online.

I was a complete beginner when I first started out.

I just assumed that you had to know how to write code and do graphic design in order to make a nice website but thanks to Wealthy Affiliate you don't need any of that.

What I love about the training is that it has step-by-step lessons in both video and text so you just have to follow it along and complete the same tasks that the video does.

This makes it pretty much fool proof but just in case you get stuck or need help with something you can chat with other students in the community or even the owners themselves.

The training doesn't just stop at building a website, it's an all encompassing course that teaches you how to monetize your website using affiliate marketing.

Here's the details.

What Is Affiliate Marketing?

I've written a few articles describing affiliate marketing to a "T" and I even wrote one article where I show examples of successful affiliate marketing websites.

Go ahead and read that article if you want to see some live websites with your own eyes or keep reading below to see the best definition that I've come across.

Affiliate marketing is the process of earning a commission by promoting other people’s (or company’s) products. You find a product you like, promote it to others and earn a piece of the profit for each sale that you make.

I found this definition on Pat Flynn's blog Smart Passive Income and it just sounded perfect.

Here's a real life example......

My hands were always freezing cold in the winter until I discovered the Zippo hand warmer. It's a really cool gadget that keeps your hands warm no matter how cold the weather gets.

You can buy it on Amazon by clicking here

Robert Lawrence
Warm Hands Enthusiast

So you see that link above? The highlighted text that says, "buy it on Amazon by clicking here".

That's my affiliate link. If anyone clicks that link it will bring them straight to the Amazon website where I'll earn a commission if they buy something from Amazon within the next 24 hours.

Each affiliate link has an ID built right into it so that Amazon can track who's sending them customers and then they know who to pay the commissions to.

The other cool thing about it is that you get a commission no matter what that person buys.

So if someone clicks my link for that Zippo hand warmer and then ends up buying a pair of sunglasses instead, I still get the commission as long as the purchase was made within 24 hours of clicking my link.

So that's essentially how affiliate marketing works.

Amazon is only one of MANY online stores who pay people commissions for referring customers to them but it's my personal favorite of them all.

The reason I like Amazon is because it's extremely popular.

There are so many people who have shopped at Amazon and who continue to shop there so when someone clicks your affiliate link you have a pretty good chance of someone buying something.

Some other stores who use this same technique are Ebay, The North Face, Shareasale and Clickbank just to name a few.

Building YOUR Affiliate Site

So you might be thinking that I'm a bit crazy for thinking that ANYBODY can do this.

The concept might sound simple and easy to understand but actually building your own website, putting in affiliate links and making a living from this might still sound way too scary or complicated to you.

Don't worry, it's not complicated as long as you have the right training which I already told you about (Wealthy Affiliate) and they offer a free trial.

So once you decide that you want to try this out for real and start building your own website you'll have some decisions to make.

Decisions like......

  • What topic should I build my website around?
  • What domain name should I choose?
  • Should I use the Amazon Affiliate Program or a different one?
  • What products can I promote?

All of these decisions might seem stressful but they're all covered in the training in great detail and even in order of when you need to get them done.

I don't want to bore you with all the details that you'll learn in the training but I do want to talk about that first decision I mentioned earlier. Your WEBSITE TOPIC.

You've probably heard people talking about niche websites at some point or another and that's exactly what I mean when I say "Website Topic".

Niche Website

A niche website is simply a website about a specific topic.

In other words It's a distinct segment of a market.

The reason it's important to build a website around a niche topic rather than a broad topic is because there will be far less competition in niche topics.

One example I always like to use is the topic of shoes.

If you Google the term "running shoes" you can almost guarantee that the first few pages of results that turn up will be huge companies like Nike, Adidas, Reebok or Asics.

So if you have a website built around running shoes it will be almost impossible to get your website to show up in the search engine results page (SERP'S) because nobody can compete with those huge brands.

So if you narrow it down to a more specific (niche) topic then you have a chance at getting on page one of the SERPS which is the ultimate goal of any website.

If you can get your website to turn up on the first page of the SERPS then your website will get a lot of traffic and with affiliate marketing Traffic = Money.

Using our example of running shoes, here's a few examples of some more narrowed down versions of that topic......

  • Running shoes for people with plantar fasciitis
  • Running shoes for people with corns
  • Running shoes for women in their 60's
  • Running shoes for winter
  • Running shoes for supination

Those are just a few examples but the amount of niche topics that you can choose from is incredible.

The beauty of niche websites is that there are millions and millions of them still available so you can always find a topic that interests you.

Also, it doesn't matter if the niche topic you want to choose is already taken because there are just so many people in the world buying stuff online that there truly is more than enough business to go around.

Just to show you how many options of niche websites there are I've compiled a list of 100 ideas for you.

100 Niche Ideas

Now if that's not enough for you, here's another whopping list of ideas.

When trying to decide what niche to choose it's important to pick something that you have a genuine interest in.

This is something you should take seriously because once you've decided on a topic you'll have to write about that topic a lot so you'll want to make sure it's something you love or are passionate about.

Don't just pick something that you think will make a lot of money.

In the end, all niche topics can be profitable but you're far less likely to give up and quit if it's a topic that you enjoy.

So many people start out in this business and end up quitting before they make their first dollar and I suspect that's because they choose a topic that doesn't interest them.

Not to mention it's amazing being able to make money from something you love.

Domain Name

The domain name is really not all that important when it comes to niche websites.

Sure it would be nice to have a real short domain that relates perfectly to your niche but that's most likely not going to happen since all the good ones are pretty much taken already.

When looking for a domain name your best bet is to come up with a name that doesn't pigeon hole you into one specific topic.

For example, one of my niche websites is called and when I first created that website I was only planning on writing about winter gloves which is a pretty narrow niche.

After I reviewed and wrote about numerous pairs of gloves I started to get a lot of good traffic to the website and I was on the first page of the SERPS for a lot of competitive terms.

At that point I wanted to expand my website and write about other types of winter clothing aside from gloves.

The problem is that I am now writing about all sorts of winter clothing even though the name of the website is "The Warmest Gloves" so it might seem a bit odd to some of my readers.

This isn't that big of a deal but I wish I would have picked a more broad term for my domain.

Here's a cool little tool that allows you to check the availability of domain names if you want to give it a whirl.

Getting Traffic To Your Website

Remember earlier when I said that in the business of affiliate marketing Traffic = Money?

Well I want to talk about this some more. In case you don't know what I mean when I say traffic, that just means human visitors to your website.

The only way to actually make money from a website is to attract visitors and then you want those visitors to click on your affiliate links and ideally buy something from Amazon or whatever affiliate program you've chosen.

There are basically four different sources of traffic that you can get to your website.

1. Organic

2. Paid Traffic

3. Social Media

4. Direct

Starting with the first source, Organic traffic is the free traffic that you get from the search engines and it happens to be my favorite type of traffic.

I already mentioned this earlier in the post but this is basically when somebody types a query into a search engine and then clicks on your link in the results which then brings them to your website.

Since organic traffic is my absolute favorite type of traffic I'm going to go into great detail about it and explain how it works and why it's my favorite but first let's cover the other 3 types.

Paid traffic is exactly what it sounds like, traffic that you have paid for.

There are a lot of different ways you can pay for traffic and this can actually be pretty risky because if you don't know what you're doing you'll end up spending a lot of money on traffic without getting any return on it.

A few examples of paid traffic are.......

I always recommend people hold off on paying for traffic until they really have a good grasp on it as to not waste their money.

There are some really great training programs that can help with this too.

Social Media

Social Media is another great way to get extra traffic to your website and it can be pretty much free with some hard work and persistence.

I use Twitter, Google +, Facebook and Pinterest as platforms to generate more traffic to my websites and it works really well.

Basically you just have to be active on those platforms and over time you'll build up a following.

Once you have a decent following you can start to post links to your website on your feed and you'll see some nice FREE traffic coming in.

Direct traffic can mean a few different things but usually it's when someone goes right to the address bar and types in your domain name directly.

This only happens when they know your domain name obviously so it's more of a traffic source that builds up over time as your website gains popularity.

Another way that you can get direct traffic is through backlinks.

Backlinks are when other websites put a link on their site that goes directly to your website.

This can occur if someone really likes one of your articles and wants to share it with their readers but it can also happen if two website owners agree to add links to one another's site.

A lot of people put huge emphasis on trying to build quality backlinks to their website and there are even some massively popular websites ( that put all of their effort into teaching people how to build backlinks for their websites.

Personally I don't go out of my way to build backlinks because they usually come naturally if you write good quality content that people want to link to.

So as I mentioned before, Organic traffic is my favorite and that's because it's not only free but once you have organic traffic you'll keep getting it even when you're sleeping or on holiday.

So when you eventually get enough organic traffic, your website will then start to make money passively which is the absolute best thing ever and probably the main reason why people love making money online.

With that being said, Organic traffic doesn't just magically show up overnight.

It takes a lot of hard work and of course proper SEO.

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization and it's the process in which you optimize your website so that the search engines can not only find it but like it enough to send traffic to it.

Google is obviously the biggest search engine with Bing and Yahoo coming in second but there are many others.

The whole goal of a search engine is to send people to the website that is the most relevant to whatever that person is looking for.

The better job the search engine does at sending people to relevant information, the more popular that search engine will become.

As of right now, the majority of people consider Google to be the best.

Is This Article Over Whelming You?

I realize this is a very long article and it might be a little over whelming to beginners. Don't let that scare you off. You can skip right to the lessons and learn this stuff one step at a time rather than trying to absorb it all right here. Just hit that button to start the lessons.

Using SEO To Get Organic Traffic

SEO is somewhat of a mystery because the search engines don't reveal exactly what they're looking for because if they did, everyone would follow it to a T and there would be no way to determine what results are the most relevant.

With that being said, there are things we DO know about what they want.

We know they want relevant content so that they can give people the information they're looking for.

We also know they want high quality content.

The best way to gain the trust of the search engines is to write high quality articles on your website that relate to specific keywords.

Keywords are words or sentences that people type into a search engines.

So if you go to Google and type in, "what are the best running shoes for winter" then your keyword would be, "what are the best running shoes for winter".

So if you want to target that specific keyword, you just put it in the title of your article and add it into the text of your article as well, preferably in the first paragraph.

Then when people search for that keyword you hope that your article shows up in the search results.

If your article does in fact show up in the search results then you'll get a whole bunch of people coming to your website who are interested in running shoes for winter.

There are all sorts of great tools that you can use to figure out what keywords people are searching for the most or how many people are searching for a specific keyword. It's actually really cool.

The keyword tool I use is called Jaaxy.

Here's an example. Let's say you have your website about running shoes and you want to figure out which keywords to target.

Here's a few results you get when you type "Running shoes" into Jaaxy.

The Avg is the average number of searches that term gets per month.

Traffic is the average number of visitors you can expect to get to your website if you rank #1 for that term.

QSR is the number of competing websites there are for that exact term.

KQI tells you if that term is viable or if it's too competitive. The green circle means it's viable and the Yellow circle means it has a lot of competition.

I only recommend targeting keywords with a green circle otherwise you'll never rank and then you'll never get organic traffic.

As you can see the term "running shoes" is way too competitive but the term "cheap running shoes for women" is far less competitive.

Sure you won't get the huge amounts of traffic with the less competitive terms but if you add a lot of articles to your website that all target a different keyword they will all add up to a lot of traffic.

Not only traffic but relevant and targeted traffic too.

There is also backlinks that have an effect on SEO. Getting other people to link to your website is good for SEO. Signing up for blog sites like can be an easy way to get a backlink but ideally you get them from other bloggers.

Targeted Traffic

Targeted traffic is when someone comes to your website because they have a genuine interest in the topic of your website.

So if you had a website that was all about running shoes, the targeted traffic for that website would be people who are interested in running shoes.

Even better yet, people who are interested in buying running shoes.

When you get someone genuinely interested in the content of your website there is a good chance that they will click your affiliate link and then maybe even buy something.

The non targeted traffic is basically useless because if someone arrives at your website but they have zero interest in running shoes they'll most likely just hit the back button and leave the site.

How To Get Targeted Traffic

Getting targeted traffic should be your main goal when running an affiliate marketing website and there are a few ways of doing it.

You can buy targeted traffic but it's usually very expensive so you shouldn't do that until your website is making a decent amount of money.

The best way to get free targeted traffic is by blogging.

Every blog post you write will attract people to your website through the search engines.

For example, you could write an article that is titled, "Top 5 Running Shoes For Women".

Then when someone goes to Google or another search engine and searches for "running shoes for women" your website should turn up in the results.

Then when someone clicks on your link in the results it will bring that person straight to your article.

This is great targeted traffic because the person who searched for that term is most likely shopping for new running shoes and will potentially click one of your affiliate links and buy something.

That's how you make money from targeted traffic.
